Mayo and a 5 year check up
5 years ago we were told that Dave was probably going to die...
now he is officially considered "a survivor" of Stage 4 cancer.
Stage 4 cancer
God is great.
It is hard to believe it has been 5 years since we first heard the words "you have cancer"
devastating news that hit us hard
we were twirling in our minds and hearts
we were lost with no where to go
we were stunned and numb
we found hope and peace in your word
we anchored into our faith
we prayed for your salvation and to show us the way
5 years of very many doctor visits
5 years of so many trips back and forth to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota
5 years of hotels, eating out of boxes, and packing clothes for a two day trip or a week
5 years of tests and procedures and anxiously waiting for results
5 years of so much pain and hurt
5 years of tears and hugs
5 years watching new friends go to meet God
5 years of painful therapy and recovery exercises
5 years of huge financial burdens
5 years of wondering what tomorrow brings
We have a long way to go but cancer is no longer part of the explanation
Dave has issues related to his treatments and that he is still dealing with but as he tells everyone with a smile
"At least I'm alive to complain about my problems"
For as much of a burden as it was on our family, God has used Dave's illness to help others.
Dave has spoken to so many people who have suffered from cancer just like him
So many people who had given up hope were able to find peace in Dave's story of survival
Dave believes God saved him so he can share his story of survival and help save others.
God is great.
