If your apologies feel awkward or come through gritted teeth that's ok. Most of us aren't pros, and you've got to start somewhere.
The goal, I believe, is to repair any damage you've caused or provoked. Life is too short to be stubborn, and when you look back in ten or 20 years, you'll regret the apologies you held back from your kids, friends, and loved ones more than the apologies you gave.
