Giving
I am always so emotional about Giving
We love to give all year to people
whatever it may be
Sometimes putting our family on the back burner to do so
Sometimes, I get a little carried away and
wish you could just keep giving and giving and giving but when the well is dry it hurts
Seriously, I would go into debt giving just because I like to
We have been selling things that we have and do not need and
simplifying and living with less and giving more
I see so much pain, hurt and struggle every day that just breaks my heart
I  want to be able to help and give and do whatever we can do
God has put it on our heart to do so
It makes me so sad
Faces that break your heart
Tummies that need food and water
Bodies that need to be hugged and loved
Situations that just hurt your gut to hear
Dr. results that tear you apart
He provides all we need
Thankful and grateful hearts for the little we give
Tears of joy for something so little to us, but huge for them
I love that feeling you get when you give
God is good
I am no longer letting the pull of this world distract us from our purpose, our calling, or from seeing the amazing blessings we have been given.
My eyes are fixed on Jesus
Whether we always feel it, whether or not we always see it–
we are changing the world in our own wonderful way.
One heart at a time.
We need  to be who we are and  do what we do and to keep on doing it no matter what.
Someone Who Loves You sees.
And smiles.
The joy comes when you are doing his HIS work
Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31

Headless Men & Fasting

Our kids had so much fun hiding behind these things. They were in downtown Chicago and there were about 50 of them. We played hide and seek with the kids. It was a blast.
We are fasting and praying for a few days if you would like to join us.  We need some direction right now so we are hoping to receive a clear answer to our prayers in the next few days.
Thanks for your prayers!

Papa
Papa which is my dad works a lot.  He is an over the road truck driver for UPS.  Jeremiah only gets to see him on Sundays and Mondays and boy does he love it.  He just never wants him to leave.
My dad was always gone growing up.
When he was there we would go camping
He wasn't a hugger or a kisser but either was my mother.
I missed that kind of love.
It was just something they didn't do and were maybe just a little uncomfortable about it.
I always had my brother.
We were buddies.
I love to see how the kids light up when they see all their grandparents.
There is just some different about grandparents than parents.
I wish I had some grandmas and grandpas to love on.
I have a lot of older friends that I see as great and loving mentors and seasoned in life
I am grateful for that.
Very grateful!

 Jokes

At least once a week my dear Odin is playing a joke on me.  He was getting in the van for school and he decided to decorate the console area with a few pumpkins and squash.  Last week there was fennel all over in  the van in different spots.  It smelled good at least!

One of thoooose Mondays!
Had the best nights sleep.
Totally uninterrupted
7 HOURS
That never happens in the Funks house
Everyone got up and we started playing the game of LIFE by 6
My kids are obsessed with this game
Jeremiah just cruises his car around the track and spins.
As I walked down the stairs I happen to see a booger on the wall.
A fresh big one
Now, who in the world did this, I said?
Everyone said, NOT ME
Let me tell you, my kids are terrible at trying to lie.
They always start smiling
That was Odin
He had an ear to ear grin
But, since he lied the first time to me when I asked he got disciplined for lying like we usually do.
That caused a 10 minute scene of course.
Battle done and solved.
Prayed together
We are still playing LIFE
Next, Olivia decides to not listen about putting her jammies in the proper basket when told.
I told her again and she did not listen.
So, that resulted in discipline for not listening but when I went to talk to her she said those words I have never heard before.
The word you are not allowed to say in our house.
She stomped up the stairs and said
I HATE you.
Of course she thought it was funny and ran up the stairs apologizing.
I wish I would of taken a picture of the other 3 kids mouths when she said that.  Their jaws about hit the floor.
It was classic.
When Olivia and I talked about this I was able to get some tears flowing and then that really threw her over the top. "Wow, I guess that is a bad word to say", she says.  "I just wanted to try it and see what it sounded like."
I was shocked
It rocked me to the core
Has your child ever said this to you?
Maybe I just think it will never happen, I guess.
It has been one of those weekends with her.  She is really into testing her boundaries right now.
Just staying focused and
consistent
Hope you all have a great Tuesday!

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”, that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
(Ephesians 6:1-4 )

Chicago
Grandma Mimi and Papa Julio treated us to a trip to Chicago.
We left on Thursday morning and came home Friday afternoon.
We had 2 vehicles and I was one of those crazy drivers that never got off the back of my husbands car.  I was terrified of losing him and getting lost.  I always get lost, and usually end  up in bad neighborhoods.  The kids were great driving and we all had fun looking at the big buildings and all.  I am not a city person at all.
The kids had a ton of questions and great learning experiences.

Eating at the Rainforest Cafe

These were a huge highlight for the kiddos.  Pick a door and find a kid!
We got to see a 4D show that was included with the package she payed for.  Very fun, Jonah cannot see any difference with any of the D movies.  He has some eye issues so there is no difference for him to see a 3D movie or a regular movie.  It is all the same but he loved the show!

Thanks again for the great trip. You guys are so kind and generous.   We are so blessed.  We all had so much fun and so many fun memories in our heart.  We love and miss you!

                                                      A little dirty
ok, so you know you haven't bathed your kids in awhile when your teacher(good friend of ours) is cleaning their ears for them at school.
Dave is the only one who showers every day!  Seriously it's been a week since we took a bath.
One of thoooose weeks!
where you just feel like laying low and catching up on a good book under a nice warm blanket with a STRONG cup of a coffee!  Have a good weekend!

Yes, we are making bacon/cheddder biscuits at 5:30 in the morning..

The kids are getting up at 4-4:30 with the whole time change going on.  Which causes some crabby kids by afternoon.  One of these days they will get caught up.  Have a great Friday!  We don't have school today, so we are hanging out in our jammies!!

Jonah ramblings
Wondering why he has gym shoes.. Why have 2 pairs of shoes when the orphan has none.
Then he was pretending that he was lacing my face up like a shoe when we were laying together in bed..
Corners of your mouth to your nostrils(in and out) and then through each eye and make a bow between your eyes.
He has the most vivid imagination!

                                         2nd Attempt

Ok, so we have done a lot of things to save money and be as frugal as we can.
We have not had to buy clothes for any of us this year, we do not go out to eat unless we got a free gift card or someone treated us as a gift, we just don't spend the money on extra things or entertainment.
We have always been on a budget(fixed income) with 6 in our family.  I am one of those moms who clips coupons and will drive the extra mile to save.50cents. I really love the challenge of this.   Always looking for cheaper meals and deals, so in the long run we have more to give.  We love to give...So I have been thinking about other ways to spend less on our groceries and it is hard to come up with ideas.
We have cut out meat except for 2 times a week and we make a lot of homemade things. I make homemade pancakes and waffles and freeze them for the week.   I realized how much yogurt we eat during the school year and realized how much money we spend on it.  Why not make this, I thought.. So I have now tried twice with no success.  I have done this in the crock pot and even used 2 different thickeners and it just never got thick.
So I am looking for ideas, help anything will work.  I will do this!   For all the ingredients I have wasted already I could of  bought 2 packs of yogurt.
Thanks for your help and input!!

           ORPHAN SUNDAY

I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you John 14:18

We had a great Orphan Sunday at our church and I just want to say thanks to Pastor Glen for everything he did along with a great sermon and all the helping hands that helped me.
We were able to add $175 to our Adoption Fund.  We sold 13 dozen rolls and 2 necklaces.  We also had 3 children sponsored.
                                 GOD IS SO GOOD!
Somewhere along the line, I unconsciously began living a lie that says learning about God, singing about God, speaking about God is more important than walking with him.
Like so many well intentioned Christians before me, I had thought I could live out my Christianity in church buildings, in Bible studies, and among christian friends.  I had anticipated a comfortable future of growing and learning and discussing and growing some more.  But as I took small steps of obedience, God kept leading me into the fields of the fatherless and the widow and the needy.
The call to follow Christ on this path is difficult, requiring self-sacrifice and obedience.
To live out these truths and walk in his love.
We are always longing for a deeper experience of God, and the irony is that it is among those we too often ignore and avoid-the orphans, widows poor, sick and oppressed-where God said he would be.  There we will experience HIM, see HIM, touch HIM, and walk with HIM.
So, as we continue to show hope to orphans, may our lives reflect the prayer of our Savior to the Father, "Thy kingdom come and Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven!'

Pumpkin Contest
The kids always enter the pumpkin contest in town.
They love arts and crafts.
You just have to decorate a pumpkin yourself  and that's it.  They love this!
            Jeremiah's candy corn

Olivia's butterfly

Jonah's friendly Frankie

Odin's superhero missing 1 ear.
They all won for the category they entered and they all had a blast doing it.

Trick or Treating

Jonah couldn't find his mask as Captain America
The kids are allowed to dress up with something we have in the dress up box.  We just can't afford to buy a costume every year,  so we usually go and get some after Halloween when they are on clearance for a couple bucks and give that to them as part of their Christmas present.  They love it!  They dress up all year in them and we usually just have to sew them from wear and tear.  My kids love dressing up!
Olivia was Cinderella and Jeremiah wore a pair of worker men jammies.

I am not too sure about Wolverines claws.  They all had fun and of course we got too much candy!

Good bye

Well we took Grandma Mimi and Papa Julio back to the airport this morning and it was hard to say good bye...
Time goes so fast
It's great to see the kids feeling sadness and dealing with their feelings.
As they get older we seem to talk about it more
Odin says, why do we sound different when we cry?  Like how come our voice changes and stuff.  He has a heart of gold but is very shy and likes to be alone when he cries.
They are so honest and real, I love it.
I don't like to say bye either
how about see you soon
the kids just don't understand why we cannot see them more.  They think that you can just pick up and go for a visit any time you please and it's all free.  Wish it worked like that.
Twice a year is when we see them.
We had a great time(treated us to a lot of wonderful things) and made lots of wonderful memories.
Will post pictures soon
Thanks for everything!

Carving pumpkins

This was the fastest pumpkin carving so far...only 45 minutes
They all had a blast.  Jeremiah was in awe with the candle in there.
